The device is designed to provide a kind of “spanking” to prevent penetration.
“It’s a very effective tool to be able to deter someone who is in the habit of engaging in sexual activity, and who’s not using their body well, and we think that they may be struggling with their sexuality,” said Dr. Marc Blaise, a researcher with the Centre for Research and Therapy on Sex and Gender at Queen’s University.
“So when you give someone a spank, you’re really, really reinforcing their sense of self-worth and self-respect, which are really important to them.”
The device works by stimulating the base of the penis with a soft, flexible object, such as a toy, and placing a thin layer of plastic on top of it.
It’s then heated and the penis is pushed into the device, and the toy is removed.
The device also includes a “spanker” which attaches to the tip of the device.
“The spanker is really like a small toy that is used to give a gentle, non-sexual spanking,” Dr. Blaize explained.
“In a way, the spank is a kind, loving touch, because you’re actually doing it to them in a way that’s gentle, not too harsh.”
He said the device was developed in collaboration with the American Institute of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AIOS), which is also known for its research on male chastity devices.
A spokesman for the organisation confirmed the device is being tested at a local university, but added that the devices are not approved for use by health professionals in Canada.
“We are very excited about this research and its potential for improving health for men in Canada, and would like to work with the research to better understand how this can help,” said the spokesman, who asked not to be named.
In its statement, AIOS said it is looking into ways to better educate healthcare professionals about the device and said it will work with health authorities to develop educational materials for health care professionals.
“AIOS has been actively involved in developing education materials for healthcare professionals that address the issues that are associated with this device, including the potential impact on male health,” the statement said.
“As a result, we have identified a number of potential health and safety issues, and have taken appropriate actions to address these issues.”
The spokesperson said AIOS is working with other health authorities in Canada and elsewhere to develop an education material.
But Dr. Jules Kupfers, a sexual health expert at the University of Guelph, said it’s not the first time a device has been used in a medical context.
“I don’t know of any other medical device that has been specifically created for male chastities,” he said.
But Kupffers said the concept of a device that could be used to spank a penis “really seems to me to be a little bit of a strange concept, and I think it’s really interesting to think about.”
Dr. Kupfs told CBC News he believes that spanking could be a good thing.
“One of the things that you’ve got to remember is that the spanking is really a form of self discipline,” he added.
“You can be very sensitive to things like, say, a guy who has a penis that’s smaller than yours.
The research team at the university said that the research is part of an ongoing effort to develop new male chastisement technologies.”
If he’s doing that then you can do a little more than spank.”
